If there is one thing that we have all learned during the pandemic, it’s that confining yourself at home is more difficult than it sounds. Prolonged feelings of loneliness can severely impact mental health, and for that reason, it is important to stay connected with others. If you are comfortable with technology, there are numerous ways you can stay in touch virtually while maintaining social distancing.
Stay connected These days it’s easy through Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or Pinterest.
Group together Check out Facebook groups and look for topics that you are interested in.
Try group video chat services Facetime, Zoom, Instagram Live, Google Hangouts, Discord, WattsApp, Jitsi or Houseparty to stay in touch with friends and family.
Communicate and network Services like Yammer and Marco Polo make it easy to do so.
Let home cooking take on a new meaning Pick a recipe and cook together through one of the group video chat services mentioned above.
Host a virtual happy hour Pick a theme for food and drinks, get dolled up and use the group video chat services mentioned above.
Download multiplayer game apps Try Wordfeud, Words with Friends, Arkadium and Scrabble. You can also enjoy new games or old family favorites with those in your home.
Join an online book club or forum It’s a great way to discuss your favorite book with other fans.
Join a group wellness or fitness challenge There are many gyms, fitness tracker sites and various sites that are offering free resources and challenges.
Sing your heart out Join an online choir or, if you are a member of a choir, use Zoom to practice and perform together. You can also join a virtual group singing event through “The Sofa Singers.”
Look at Google Maps Seek out your local parks. Search online for local hikes and walks at AllTrails. Leave your cellphone behind, enjoy nature and be sure to practice social distancing with others.
Send a postcard Use a service called Post Crossing, which matches people around the world with other postcard-loving people.
