Free wellness apps to help you manage your health

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many of us to stay inside and has posed some difficult challenges when it comes to staying active, eating healthy and coping with stress – but QuadMed is here to help.

Our wellness coaches have compiled their favorite well-being apps and resources, all of which can help you to effectively manage your health at no cost, and without ever having to leave your living room.

STAYING ACTIVE

Get outdoors
Assuming you are practicing social distancing, being outdoors to exercise in the coming weeks may be a welcome respite. Consider going for a walk, bike ride, or doing yard work.

Sworkit app
Home workouts that are easy for all ages to follow. Includes warmups, correct form and technique for each exercise. The best part? The Sworkit Kid Workouts are free forever.

7-minute workout apps
Many are available for free in your app store. We recommend the J&J Official 7 Minute Workout app offered by Johnson & Johnson. Do several to get full-body or targeted workouts.

Yoga apps

  • The Yoga for Beginners app offers completely free voice-guided yoga workouts.
  • Daily Yoga offers free guided classes for beginners to learn yoga basics. Advanced yoga classes are available for an extra charge.
  • Core Power Yoga and Down Dog, which are typically paid sites, are providing free classes.

Fitness Blender
A Youtube workout channel with over 500 free full-length videos that allows you to search for the exact type of workout you want to do.

Many popular gym chains and boutique fitness studios are offering free content without a membership to help everyone stay active and reduce stress during these trying times.

  • Planet Fitness – Streaming live workout classes on Facebook.
  • Peloton – Free 90-day app trial. No fancy bike or treadmill required!
  • OrangeTheory Fitness – Posting daily Instagram videos with circuit workouts and demos.
  • Golds Gym – offering free access to its Goldsamp app through May.

EATING HEALTHY

MyFitnessPal
Excellent food tracking app with a comprehensive library of foods. You can also use it to track workouts, water consumption, weight and more.

Fooducate
Scan barcodes or search for foods and drinks in the store to see how healthy they really are with same grade rankings that range from A to F. Also gives healthier alternatives for foods and drinks.

COPING WITH STRESS

Headspace app
Meditation and relaxation app with a free “weathering the storm” program. The app can also help with personal goals and can support you through acute stress and anxiety.

QuarantineChat.com
Created to connect isolated people stuck at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Meet people spontaneously or connect based on interests. Free calls take place over the internet.

Gratitude apps and journals
Regular gratitude practice is beneficial to our health during stressful times. There are tons of free gratitude apps and journals available for Apple and Android devices. Try one out and challenge yourself to find something or someone to be grateful for every day.
