Depending on your location, therapy sessions can be conducted in person or virtually. During your first session, your therapist may ask:
- What brought you to therapy?
- How are you feeling?
- What do you feel is causing stress in your life?
Your therapist may also inquire about your history, including your childhood, education, relationships (family, romantic, friendships), current living situation, and any substance abuse. At this time, you are welcome to ask questions that you may have about the treatment process and talk about your own expectations for it.
By the end of your first session, you and your therapist will come to an agreement about the length of your progress plan, the goals you hope to achieve through therapy, and the confidentiality of each session.
